Recognizing country music artists for community service and generosity.

There is no bigger heart in Nashville than Vince Gill's -- and none so often called to service. Apart from his sponsorship of and participation in dozens of organized charities, he is remarkable for his countless acts of personal kindness. As a humanitarian, his causes are many, among them programs for children's recreation, education, the terminally ill, the homeless and the hungry, cultural and environmental preservation and the humane treatment of animals. Nearly all of his concerts have a local charity component.

Vincent Grant Gill was born April 12, 1957, in Norman, Okla., the son of a federal judge and a homemaker. By the time he was in high school, he had become proficient on the banjo and guitar and was playing in his first bluegrass band. After graduation, he turned professional, working with such acts as the Bluegrass Alliance, Boone Creek, Sundance and, most famously, Pure Prairie League. For a time, Vince also toured with Emmylou Harris as a member of her high-octane backup band, the Cherry Bombs. In 1983, he signed to RCA Records where he scored his first solo country hits, among them "Oklahoma Borderline" and "Cinderella."

Vince moved to MCA Records in 1989. The following year, he achieved his big breakthrough with "When I Call Your Name." It won him the Country Music Association's single of the year award. Since then, he has won 17 more CMA honors, including entertainer of the year twice and song of the year four times. To date, Vince has earned more CMA trophies than anyone else in the organization's history. Prized for his easygoing manner and quick wit, he hosted the nationally televised CMA awards show from 1992 through 2003.

Since 1990, Vince has won 17 Grammy awards, his most recent one this year for producing the album Rock of Ages ... Hymns & Faith for his wife, pop and gospel star Amy Grant. In 1991, Vince became a member of the Grand Ole Opry. He remains one of that revered radio show's most active members. His most cherished honor came in 2005 when he was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

As a recording artist, Vince has racked up sales in excess of 22 million. His high, pure tenor voice and unerring sense of harmony have made him a favorite duet recording partner for dozens of fellow artists from Ralph Stanley to Barbra Streisand. Always ready to help a friend or a new artist on the way up, Vince has sung or played on more than 600+ albums. He is currently recording his 15th album for MCA, which is scheduled to be released late 2006. The Vinny
Determined that children should have the opportunity to enjoy the social and health benefits of outdoor sports, regardless of their personal circumstances, Vince established a pro-celebrity golf tournament in 1993 to raise funds for that goal. The annual event, which has come to be known as The Vinny, has raised more than $3.5 million for Junior Golf of Tennessee.

All for the HallTM/Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum
Vince conceived and organized the ongoing All for the HallTM fundraising campaign on behalf of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Instead of simply asking others to contribute, each of the many artists involved in this campaign agree to donate the proceeds from one of their concert to this culturally vital institution. Vince has also served as president of the Hall of Fame's board since 2002.

VINCE SHARES HIS SPIRIT OF GIVING AT THE 2006 ACM AWARDS

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingAnother emotional moment came as Vince Gill accepted the ACM/The Home Depot Humanitarian Award when he paid tribute to Grand Ole Opry star Billy Walker, who was killed Sunday (May 21) in a traffic accident that also claimed the life of Walker's wife Bettie and band members Charles Lilly and Daniel Patton.

In accepting the trophy, Gill noted, "The beauty of this award is that it honors the giving spirit. I have a wife that has an even better giving spirit than I do, in Amy Grant. You inspire me greatly every day." Gill then presented the trophy to young girl named Caitlin, who had been seeking autographs at the event. Gill met the child earlier this week through the Make-a-Wish Foundation that grants wishes to seriously ill children.

Hey God written by Vince Gill

Hey God I just lost a dear old friend
Hey God I hope he’s in your angel band
Hey God you know he believed in you
Just help me understand why you do the things you do

Hey God send me down some comfort please
Hey God I’ll be down here on my knees
Hey God will we ever comprehend
The forgiveness and grace that lies waiting in the end

Oh there’s anger and tears
For all of the years that your children won’t have you to hold
Oh my heart had been broken
The angels have spoken still I wish I could watch you grow old

Hey God I know he didn’t die alone
Hey God tell my old friend welcome home
Hey God please hear me when I pray
Pray for a little peace ¡®til we meet again someday
Pray for a little peace ¡®til we meet again someday

Go rest high on that mountain witten by Vince Gill

I know your life on earth was troubled
And only you could know the pain
You weren't afraid to face the devil
You were no stranger to the rain

(Chorus)
Go rest high on that mountain
Son, your work on earth is done
Go to heaven a shoutin'
Love for the Father and the Son

Oh, how we cried the day you left us
We gathered 'round your grave to grieve
I wish I could see the angels' faces
When they hear your sweet voice sing

Repeat (Chorus)

Go to heaven a shoutin'
Love for the Father and the Son.

Vince Gill ACM Humanatarium Award

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Vince Gill and Tony Stewart previewed the Academy of Country Music/The Home Depot Humanitarian Award this morning (May 23, 2006). Tony will present the award to Vince during the 41st Annual Academy of Country Music Awards broadcast live from MGM Grand in Las Vegas on at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

In its fifth year, the Humanitarian Award recognizes artists who serve others, have a generous spirit and help build the dreams of those in need. Gill was selected by a special blue-ribbon committee comprised of executives in the country music industry as well as local and national philanthropic leaders for his ongoing community service and charitable giving of his time and talent.

"The Academy of Country Music is honored to have Vince Gill as the recipient of the Humanitarian Award," said Gayle Holcomb, Academy of Country Music Chairman of the Board. "Vince's talent is huge, and his heart is even bigger. He has made the world a better place and has done it all with joy and laughter."

As the recipient of the Humanitarian Award, Gill will receive a beautiful crystal trophy designed by Tiffany & Co. during the live CBS telecast. He will also be honored with a KaBOOM! playground built by The Home Depot and the Company's volunteers, in the city of his choice. Past recipients of the Humanitarian Award include Reba McEntire, Lonestar, Martina McBride and Neal McCoy.

"Vince truly embodies the spirit of the Humanitarian Award through his charitable giving and community service," said Roger Adams, senior vice president, Marketing, The Home Depot. "This award gives the Academy of Country Music and The Home Depot a chance to recognize country music stars who make time to give back to the community. At The Home Depot, we're dedicated to improving local communities and enhancing the lives of our neighbors in need - two things that Vince makes time to do on a regular basis."

"I've gotten to write songs, sing and play a guitar for a living, which is a blessing," said Gill. "I've also tried to help other people along the way and have had so much fun doing it. Yet the title 'humanitarian' is a big one. I'm humbled by this honor from the Academy and The Home Depot."

Seventeen-time Grammy award-winning artist Vince Gill has sold more than 22 million albums. Among his many musical honors include his induction into the Grand Ole Opry in 1991 and winning five Academy of Country Music Awards. In addition to his music and performing, Gill is also dedicated to giving back to those in need. In 1993, Gill established "The Vinny," an annual pro/celebrity golf tournament, to raise money for the Junior Golf program. History of The Delta

IF you want to learn about the Delta River in Sacramento CA Click on the picture it will take you there

Gold Rush Charm in California's Capital City

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Sacramento’s history began in 1839 when Johann Augustus Sutter settled at the confluence of the American and Sacramento Rivers. When the Mexican government and Governor Alvarado granted 48,000 acres of land to Sutter, they did not realize that they had given away a literal goldmine. Gold was discovered in 1848 just thirty miles east of Sacramento, in Coloma. The rest is history!

The news of the discovery spread like wildfire around the globe and fortune hunters came by the thousands from all corners of the world to California—Sacramento to be precise. In fact, it was recorded as the largest human migration in history. California became a state in 1850 and Sacramento its capital four years later. The city has been on the move ever since and is now one of the fastest growing regions in the United States.

Peacefully located in a leafy valley of scenic rivers and canopies of trees, today’s Sacramento is a cosmopolitan convergence of tall, gleaming buildings, hearty Victorians, splendid restaurants and shops, a vibrant arts scene, and a virtual cornucopia of state of the art meeting facilities. Sacramento has been called a snapshot of Wild West history in a modern, world-class city. With a plethora of first-class hotel rooms and attractions Sacramento offers an affordable and exciting vacation and meeting destination. Its amenities, combined with the rich history of California’s Wild West, help visitors once again Discover Gold in California’s Capital City.

If you really want to visit the past, step back in time to the California Gold Rush era in Old Sacramento, a 28-acre town of historic buildings, museums and monuments. With strong preservation efforts, the wooden sidewalks, horse-drawn carriages, Pony Express monuments and Mississippi-style riverboats reflect the nostalgic appeal of early American history.

That history comes to life through interactive experiences on steam engine train rides, tours of the State Capitol Building, and historic museum tours.

On August 13, 1839, John Sutter landed on the shore of the American River near its confluence with the Sacramento River. With the promise of a Mexican land grant, Sutter and his landing party established Sutter's Fort. As the settlement grew and became permanent, it attracted other businessmen looking for opportunities.

Sam Brannan established a store near the Sacramento River hoping to take advantage of the convenient waterfront location. When gold was discovered in the nearby foothills by James Marshall, Brannan's settlement, called Sacramento, boomed. The embarcadero flourished and was the prime trading center for miners outfitting themselves for the gold fields.

But the new city experienced flooding and fires. In 1850 the new city experienced its first devastating flood, and again in 1852, the city was wiped out by high water. It was apparent that drastic measures would have to be taken if it was to saved.

In 1853 a mammoth project was proposed to raise the city above the flood. The ambitious and expensive proposal was not totally accepted until another devastating flood swept through the city in 1862. Within a few years, thousands of cubic yards of earth were brought in on wagons and the daring scheme to raise the street level can be seen throughout Old Sacramento under the boardwalks and in its basements.

The center of the commercial district gradually moved east and the area became a slum.In the mid-1960's, a grand plan to redevelop the area was begun. Today, with 53 historic buildings, Old Sacramento probably has more buildings of historic value condensed into its 28 acres than any area of similar size in the west. Old Sacramento is a National Landmark and a portion is designated as a State Historic Park.

Mostly held by private owners, with individual businesses leasing shops and offices, the area has flourished. It is once again a thriving commercial trade center. The waterfront is enjoying a resurgence with a Public Market, new public docks, excursion cruises, a water taxi, a waterfront hotel and two new restaurants. Some of Sacramento's best restaurants are offered, as are its museums.

Old Sacramento attracts over 5 million visitors annually. For locals, it is a favorite getaway and has been voted the best place for a first date. Old Sacramento proudly offers a full year-round event calendar and is home of one of the largest jazz festivals in the world.
